Women who are considering a breast augmentation surgery are faced with the choice between which implant they think is better: saline implants or silicone implants? Currently, these are the only two options available that are approved by the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) and both have their advantages and disadvantages. Here is a quick rundown on the comparison between saline and silicone and which one is the right choice for you:

Individuals who have opted for bariatric surgery in order to lose a lot of weight have made a major life decision to look and feel their best. However, what many patients do not realize is that once major weight loss has been accomplished excess skin will be left behind. For people who have experienced a loss of fifty or hundred pounds or more, this excess skin can take the form of unsightly flaps around the legs, arms, and chest and torso. Getting rid of these excess flaps of stretched skin is the major aim for cosmetic body contouring procedures.

We all have our own personal views of who we are and what we would like to become. What people find beautiful about themselves may be quite different than what they find beautiful in others. Several studies have shown these results. Some participants were asked what aspects of physical attributes they found attractive in others as well as what they were concerned most within themselves. People in their twenties, thirties, and forties, tended to look for a healthy, well proportioned body.

Becoming a mother is one of the most important milestones in a woman’s life. Bearing a child has long-lasting effects on not only female physiology, but psychology as well. In fact, a recent study has demonstrated that more than 60% of 7,000 moms surveyed in the research study reported a negative body image. Considering the rise of the popularity of cosmetic procedures known as the “Mommy Makeover” many surgeons and psychologists believe that this attitude is common among many American women.

Some of the most popular cosmetic procedures performed today are known as “non-invasive” treatments. Transdermal injectable fillers such as Botox Cosmetic, Juvederm, and Restylane are currently the hottest products on the market to reduce fine lines, wrinkles, and improve the shape of the lips. In addition to not requiring surgery, the advantages of these products include ultra fast results, virtually no down time, and they are relatively inexpensive. However, non-invasive office treatments have given rise to a disturbing trend. Because they do not feature traditional surgical risks such as general anesthesia or incisions, patients have been becoming complacent about where and how these procedures are done. Prospective patients should understand that ancillary procedures, such as transdermal filler injections or skin resurfacing, are still medical procedures and should only be performed under the supervision of a qualified plastic surgeon.

Herbal products and dietary supplements are more popular than ever as people search for ways to live healthy without resorting to pharmaceuticals for energy or immune system response. However, there are dangers if taking these types of herbal supplements. Many cosmetic surgery patients are not aware that some of these supplements put them at increased risk for serious bleeding complications during and after their procedure.

Everyone has seen a turkey wattle on someone and they can be a real problem for both men and women. Fortunately, and especially in Orange County there are a wide range of techniques available to smooth out the appearance of the neck. They include everything from a minimal office treatment with no down time to fully invasive procedures requiring anesthesia. Turkey neck is usually caused by a combination of loose skin and muscle as well as excess fat and can be corrected by a plastic surgery procedure called a neck lift.

When it comes to facial scars, most people are fairly self-conscious. In addition to unsightly appearance, scars can also contribute to diminished eye function, interference with the mouth, or possibly the nose. Hundreds of thousands of patients have turned to facial surgery experts in Orange County to reduce the appearance of scars and improve function.

In Orange County and around the nation, plastic surgery patients hear this all of the time: “Make sure your surgeon is board certified!” However, most people do not really know what that means nor do they know what it means for the quality of care they receive. Believe it or not, some people shop around for the lowest price on a procedure and sometimes walk away dissatisfied with the result and soured on cosmetic health care overall. So, this begs the question: what exactly is a board certification and is it worth the extra money?

Breast augmentation, especially in Southern California’s Orange County, is one of the most popular cosmetic procedures on the market today and the safety of these implants has always been a concern. However, recently released information from both surgeons and patients has shown that implants are safer today than they were even a decade ago. A tome of studies has shown that both saline and silicone breast implants have, not only become more affordable, but they have become safer than they have ever been. On the cost front, breast implants today actually cost less than 10 years ago in real dollars.
