Mommy Makeover Newport Beach & Orange County

Restore your pre-baby figure with a Mommy Makeover

Pregnancy, giving birth, and breastfeeding can dramatically affect the way a woman’s body looks. Any number of changes, including weight gain, changes in breast size or shape, or excess skin can prevent people from returning to their pre-pregnancy body, no matter how good their diet and exercise routine is.

This procedure isn’t just limited to new mothers, though, as many people experience similar concerns due to significant weight loss and can also benefit from a combination surgery such as this.

Because each person will have different concerns about their body after pregnancy or weight loss, there is no one right procedure for everyone. During consultations about a mommy makeover procedure, Dr. Florin will help you review your biggest concerns and determine the best approach to resolve any cosmetic issues you may have. By combining multiple plastic surgery procedures into one surgery, people in Newport Beach, CA can reduce the recovery time and expense that having separate surgeries would incur.

Mommy Makeover

Good Candidates for Newport Beach Mommy Makeover

As with any plastic surgery, good mommy makeover patients are those who are looking to have a dramatic change to their body contour and appearance and who are medically cleared for surgery. In addition, good candidates should be non-smokers and have realistic expectations for the outcome of a mommy makeover treatment plan.

Common concerns Dr. Florin’s mommy makeover patients have about their appearance usually have to do with either the breasts or abdominal region, although other concerns can also be addressed with this comprehensive, personalized procedure.

Breast Changes After Pregnancy

Pregnancy and breastfeeding take a toll on the youthful appearance of the breasts. Many patients have issues of sagging, whether due to breast enlargement or sagging skin. There may also be lasting stretch marks or a loss of volume that no amount of creams and care can address. With a mommy makeover, breast surgeries such as augmentation with implants or a breast lift can help someone get back to their pre-pregnancy appearance, no matter what age they or their kids are.

Abdomen Changes After Pregnancy

Many changes can occur to the abdomen with pregnancy or massive weight loss. Most often, the skin is stretched, leading to loose skin, stretch marks, or poor skin elasticity. Also common are stretched or separated abdominal muscles (called diastasis rectus) in the midline, which can make it difficult or impossible to achieve a flat abdomen without surgical intervention to tighten the muscles and remove excess skin.

Mommy Makeover Benefits

A mommy makeover is one of Dr. Florin’s favorite procedures to perform because it is absolutely life-changing for women who are frustrated, embarrassed, or ashamed of their bodies after pregnancy and weight loss. With many possible procedures to perform, a mommy makeover can completely rejuvenate and restore the shape and look you had before the massive changes of this stage of your life.

Although many of Dr. Florin’s patients are new mothers, not all are, and the procedure isn’t limited to mothers of toddlers! Dr. Florin regularly performs this procedure for people in their 30s and 40s.

Preparing for your Mommy Makeover

A mommy makeover is a combination of major surgeries that will entail their own unique preparation process. In all cases, you must plan to have someone drive you home and stay with you for the first 48 hours after your surgery so that you can rest appropriately. If you have young children or other domestic responsibilities, you will need to prepare to have help and/or childcare for at least two weeks following your surgery.

For up to six weeks after the surgery, you will have some restriction in movement and will not be able to lift more than ten pounds. Dr. Florin will give you specific details on how much time off from work this will entail depending on the physical requirements of your job during a consultation where you figure out your unique surgical plan.

Candidates for a Mommy Makeover

You are likely a good candidate for an Orange County mommy makeover if you are unhappy with your post-pregnancy body and are cleared to undergo elective surgery. You must be at least six months post-partum, no longer breastfeeding, and finished having children. Additionally, you should be in good health and a non-smoker.

If you do smoke, you’ll be asked to stop for at least six weeks before and after the procedure, as smoking can delay the healing process.

Ideal candidates will have good skin quality and realistic expectations for the procedure. You must also be willing to follow Dr. Florin’s pre-operative and post-operative instructions, which may include finding household help and wearing support garments following surgery.

However, as this procedure is highly personalized, the best way to determine if you’re a good candidate for a mommy makeover is to schedule a consultation with Dr. Florin at our Newport Beach office.

Dr. Florin’s Mommy Makeover Method

A mommy makeover is an individualized group of surgical procedures that reverse the physical changes associated with childbirth. Most commonly these are changes associated with the breasts and the abdomen. The mommy makeover combines multiple procedures into a single day, meaning you only need one recovery period to achieve your physical transformation.

To ensure your comfort and safety, Dr. Florin performs mommy makeovers under general anesthesia. The surgery can range from six to eight hours depending on the complexity of the case and your personal surgical plan.

The benefit of a mommy makeover is that it is customized to meet your goals. While most women choose to focus on their breasts and abdomen, a mommy makeover can include any of the following procedures.

Facial Rejuvenation

A mommy makeover procedure can be a great opportunity to make your face look as young as your body. Board-certified plastic surgeon Dr. Kevin Sadati is the pioneer of the Natural Facelift — a unique facial muscle tightening technique to make your face and neck look younger without looking “worked-on” or stretched out. He also offers non-surgical options (including dermal fillers) to temporarily smooth out mild to moderate signs of aging.

Breast Augmentation

After childbirth or dramatic weight loss, many women feel that their breasts look deflated. Breast augmentation with breast implants can increase the size, shape, and volume of your breasts. Dr. Florin offers saline, silicone, and cohesive gel implants that can fill out deflated breasts and create a more feminine silhouette.

Breast Lift

When your breasts increase in volume to support breastfeeding, they become heavier and more likely to sag or stretch over time. A breast lift can remove excess breast tissue, reduce the size of the areola, and lift the breasts to create a more youthful breast appearance. After the procedure, the patient’s breasts will sit higher on the chest in a more youthful and natural position.

Breast Reduction

Increased breast volume during pregnancy puts greater stress on your back that can lead to chronic pain. This is accentuated if you already had large breasts prior to becoming pregnant. Many women request a breast reduction to decrease neck and back pain and make their breasts more proportional to their body.

Liposuction

Pregnancy leaves stubborn fat deposits that do not respond to diet or exercise. Dr. Florin can use liposuction to permanently remove this excess fat to contour your body.

Typically, liposuction is performed around the waistline along with the lower back or flanks. This allows Dr. Florin to sculpt your waistline from the front and the back, which is referred to as “360 liposuction.” Other treatment areas include bra rolls, the upper back, and nearly any other problem areas that you may have.

Rhinoplasty

A small change to the bridge of your nose or your nostrils can bring harmony to your facial features. If you’ve been considering rhinoplasty, ask Dr. Florin if it can be included in your mommy makeover.

Tummy Tuck

It’s no secret that the muscles and skin on your abdomen stretch to accommodate the growing baby. Sometimes this stretching results in permanent weakening or separation of the stomach muscles, especially if you’ve had multiple pregnancies. A tummy tuck can tighten your abdominal muscles, remove excess skin, and possibly remove scarring and stretch marks.

After birth, it can be hard for this skin to shrink back into shape and may leave new momS with a small pouch of skin that won’t go away with diet and exercise. Dr. Florin can help eliminate this excess skin through a tummy tuck to leave patients with a tighter and more natural-looking abdomen.

What to Expect During Your Mommy Makeover Recovery

Our recovery nurses will carefully monitor you after surgery until the anesthesia wears off. Once it does, they will give you prescriptions for pain management and explain how to take care of your incisions. You must have someone to drive you home and stay with you for the first 48 hours after your surgery so that you can rest.

We will send you home wearing a surgical bra and a compression garment which you will wear full time (day and night) for at least 6 weeks. Because Dr. Florin uses a nerve-blocking technique that lasts about nine hours, you will not be in much pain immediately after your mommy makeover.

Dr. Florin will personally call you to follow up after your mommy makeover plastic surgery. You will be given Dr. Florin’s 24-hour contact number in case you need assistance outside of business hours.

Because mommy makeovers are so customized, your recovery will also be unique. Dr. Florin recommends mommy makeover patients take three weeks off of work and avoid driving for two weeks. Because you cannot lift more than ten pounds, you will need help with your children, pets, or household chores for one to two weeks. Most patients start to feel more like themselves after two weeks and feel much better three weeks after surgery. You can start light cardio at around two weeks if you feel up to it. You can resume more strenuous activity at around six weeks.

Most patients wear compression full time for about two to three months and as needed after that. If you have breast implants, Dr. Florin will monitor your recovery and let you know when your breasts are settled and you are ready for an underwire bra, usually around three months.

During the early part of your recovery, you will be very tired and likely feel tender, swollen, or bruised in the various treatment areas. In addition to wearing compression garments as directed, Dr. Florin highly recommends icing these areas occasionally to reduce swelling.

It is common to feel tightness to your breasts after breast surgery and along the midline of your abdomen if undergoing a tummy tuck. In the areas that we liposuction, you may feel burning, stinging, numbness, tingling, or sharp/shooting pains. These sensations may be prominent the first few weeks to months and will gradually lessen. Typically by one year after surgery, you will have normal sensation to these areas and along your incision line.

“Dr. Florin made me feel comfortable with my plastic surgery decisions. She was honest and supportive of my wants and needs. She is personable and listens to concerns. She takes her time with her customers so I never felt rushed to decide or rushed through questions or concerns. I will definitely come back!"

Results of Mommy Makeover Surgery

Your unique mommy makeover results will be personalized to your specific surgery plan. For the best ideas of what you can expect to look like following this procedure, check out our mommy makeover before-and-after photo gallery.

In many ways, your results are only as good as your post-surgery habits. Eating a healthy diet (high protein, low sodium), drinking plenty of fluids, and exercising are the best ways to extend and enjoy your new body contour and appearance. Gaining a significant amount of weight, or becoming pregnant again, are the main ways people lose the results of their procedure.

Keep in mind that healing from a mommy makeover is a process and it takes time to see your final results. Most patients begin to appreciate their surgical results at about six to eight weeks after surgery as a lot of the surgical swelling has gone down by then. However, you may have some swelling for up to a year depending on the type and extent of procedures performed.
