Having multiple pregnancies, losing a lot of weight, or just time and gravity taking its toll on the abdomen will inevitably produce loose skin and excess fat. Even for those who have exercised daily and dieted and have lost their excess weight may still have unwanted loose skin and fat, and the only way to get rid of it is by having an abdominoplasty.
Abdominoplasty surgery, also known as ‘Tummy Tuck’, is the proper procedure to have for the reduction of excess (or lax skin), and fatty tissue from the middle and lower abdomen which also includes the tightening of the midline abdominal wall muscles.
Abdominoplasty is performed under general anesthesia and can be combined with other forms of body-contouring surgery, such as limited liposuction, in combination with other elective surgery procedures. It is important to keep in mind that it is not safe to be under general anesthesia for too long, therefore, the patient is limited as to how many procedures they can add along with their abdominoplasty. There are several types of tummy tuck procedures, including mini, modified, or full abdominoplasty. The degree of correction needed will be determined in your consultation and in the course of your thorough evaluation exam with Dr. Sadati.
A mini-abdominoplasty can only tighten the lower abdominal skin (below the belly button), with the incision line being shorter than the modified, or full abdominoplasty. A full abdominoplasty includes additional muscle tightening and skin removal with the incisions extending to the hip area. The incisions are made just above the pubic hairline in order to be hidden under your underwear.
