What people find beautiful about themselves may be quite different than what they find beautiful in others.
Several studies have shown these results. Some participants were asked what aspects of physical attributes they found attractive in others as well as what they were concerned most within themselves. People in their twenties, thirties, and forties, tended to look for a healthy, well proportioned body.
People in their fifties and sixties said youthful skin ranked at the top. When asked to rate themselves, respondents in their thirties ranked abdominals as number one. However, the vast majority of those responding chose their facial features as an area of concern. These studies are important in order to ascertain what exactly it is that patient need in a surgical procedure.
When asked, what the most important reason to maintain physical appearance; the majority of respondents replied that they wanted to enhance self-confidence with attracting the opposite sex a very close second. Older respondents selected the option that improved their chances for professional advancement. These types of surveys tend to provide invaluable data about patient attitudes, motivations, and perceptions on how plastic surgery can help them achieve their goals. These research data provide useful tools for would-be patients to help them decide if a cosmetic procedure is right for them. Another question posed to the panel was to think about what is the most important factor in maintaining beauty. Not surprisingly, diet and exercise ranked at the top of the list. However, twenty percent responded that cosmetic surgery was the most important factor for actually maintaining physical vitality.
