Having a baby, age and the effects of rapid weight loss can all cause a woman’s breasts to change position and size over time. As we age our skin loses some of its elasticity and this looser skin can cause the tissue that makes up the breast to settle lower on a woman’s chest than when she was younger. The effects of childbirth and nursing can also impact the size and position of a woman’s breast and may leave them positioned lower and less full than before. A simple breast lift procedure is designed to remove some of this excess skin and reposition the breast tissue and the breasts themselves to a slightly higher and more normal position on the chest.
Unlike a breast augmentation, a breast lift doesn’t always involve the use of implants; the surgeon simple adjusts the position of the breast slightly higher. A woman does have the option of combining a breast lift with an augmentation procedure if needed and both of these together can produce an amazing transformation for most patients.
Dr. Sadati has been doing both breast lifts and breast augmentation for some time in Orange County and has many satisfied patients in Newport Beach. He also offers several options for the procedure which allows him to vary the technique he uses to match the patient. This thoughtful approach to helping his patients ensures that they receive the best of care and has made Dr. Sadati one of the premiere cosmetic surgeons in Orange County. Since every patient’s needs and body type are different, Dr. Sadati will take the time required to help a patient decide what type of breast lift or breast augmentation might be right for them. This helps them achieve the look they desire that also compliments their body style.
Most breast lift procedures take less than three hours if an implant is used and are done under general anesthesia on an outpatient basis. The recovery period varies based on the amount and type of surgery but you can start to return to normal activities in a few days. The total healing process may take a few weeks during which you can start to engage in more strenuous activities as your doctor advises.
A breast lift can be done at almost any age but most women wait until after they have given birth to have the procedure.

Candidates for a Breast Lift in Orange County
You are a good candidate for a breast lift if you are willing to travel to our Orange County office and, if your breasts are unsupported, your nipples fall below the crease of your breasts. You may also have stretched skin, enlarged areolas, or nipples that point downward. Women who develop asymmetrical breasts because of uneven stretching are also good candidates for a breast lift.
An Ideal breast lift candidate should be in good health and a nonsmoker. If you do smoke, you’ll be asked to stop for at least three weeks before and after the procedure, as smoking can delay the healing process. You must also be willing to follow Dr. Sadati’s pre-operative and post-operative instructions, which include wearing a support bra for the month following surgery.
Ideal candidates will have good skin quality and realistic expectations for the breast lift. A breast lift can uplift your breasts, reposition your nipples, and reduce the size of your areola. A breast lift can also reduce stretch marks. A breast lift will not increase the volume of your breasts. Women with small or deflated breasts may want to consider augmentation in addition to a breast lift.
The best way to determine if you’re a good candidate for a breast lift is to schedule a consultation with Dr. Sadati at our Orange County office.
Your Breast Lift Consultation
Unlike many surgeons, Dr. Sadati takes time to get to know his patients. You will have an extensive consultation. During your consultation, you’ll discuss your goals for your breast lift as well as your medical history. If you plan to become pregnant in the future, Dr. Sadati will help you determine whether a breast lift is the right decision.
Dr. Sadati will examine you carefully. He will look at the quality of your skin; the degree of sagging; the size and shape of your breasts; the shape of your areola; and the symmetry of your breasts. Dr. Sadati will advise you if you are a good candidate for a breast lift. He will also explain that a breast lift will not increase the volume of your breasts, so he may suggest you consider breast augmentation in order to fully meet your aesthetic goals.
Dr. Sadati believes in patient education. He will discuss the breast lift process with you in detail and answer all of your questions.
Dr. Sadati will discuss the location of your incisions. Dr. Sadati’s choice of incision depends on your anatomy, the degree of sagging, and whether you are having any additional procedures. Incisions can be located at the crease beneath the breast (infra-mammary incision); at the border between the breast skin and the areola (the peri-areolar incision); vertically from the breast crease to the areola (a lollipop incision); and along the bottom of the breast to the area around the areola (an anchor incision). As much as possible, incisions are hidden in the natural folds of your body or around the areola.
You will leave the consultation knowing that Dr. Sadati cares about you and wants the best results possible from your breast lift.
Planning for your Breast Lift
A breast lift is major surgery. You must plan to have someone to drive you home and stay with you for the first 48 hours after your surgery.
Dr. Sadati recommends that you put your recovery first and seek the help you need. For the first couple of days, you may find it difficult to lift your arms over your head and may need help with personal activities. You will need to avoid bending and straining, as it may cause swelling.
For up to four weeks after the surgery, you will have some restriction in movement and will not be able to lift more than ten pounds. You will need help with young children, pets, and household chores such as meal preparation and laundry.
You must wear a compression garment or surgical bra 24/7 for the first month following your surgery. You must also sleep on your back during this time. Make sure that you have lots of pillows to keep you comfortable or, if possible, have a recliner available to sleep on. Dr. Sadati will explain how to care for your scars and drains.
Breast Lift Surgery in Orange County
Your breast lift will be performed in our beautiful Newport Beach office in Orange County, California.
During your consultation, Dr. Sadati will have explained his surgical plan. You will know the location of your incisions and – if you also choose to have augmentation — the type, style and size of implants. Your surgery will be performed using general anesthesia and will take between 90 minutes and two hours.
Immediately before your surgery, Dr. Sadati will make marks on your breasts and also answer any questions.
All of Dr. Sadati’s surgical team are genuinely caring and sympathetic to his patients’ needs. The staff speaks softly and gently, which gives patients confidence during their breast lift and contributes to a positive and reassuring experience. You will not feel any pain or remember your surgery.
The location of your incisions depends on the degree your breasts sag, whether you want your areola reshaped, you if are having any additional procedures (such as augmentation). These incisions are:
- Crescent mastopexy. This procedure removes a small crescent of breast skin above the areola, with the scar hidden around the areola. The crescent mastopexy can only be used to correct minor sagging and is most often used to correct breast asymmetry.
- Donut mastopexy. Dr. Sadati removes breast tissue from the entire area around the areola. The remaining breast tissue is tightened around the areola. The donut mastopexy is used to correct minor sagging.
- Lollipop mastopexy. With this procedure, breast tissue is removed around the areola and on the lower part of the breast. The incision looks like a lollipop, as it surrounds the areola and is placed vertically down the breast. These incisions allow Dr. Sadati to remove significant amounts of excess skin and to reshape the breast.
- Anchor mastopexy. This final incision is for women with extreme sagging. There is an incision in the fold under the breast, along the center of the breast to the nipple, and around the nipple. These incisions allow Dr. Sadati to reshape the breast and to remove significant amounts of excess skin and tissue.
Incisions are carefully closed using layers of fine sutures. Skin may be closed using sutures, adhesives or surgical tape. Dr. Sadati may place drains in your breasts to collect excess fluid. Your incisions will be protected with a surgical dressing.
Recovering from Breast Lift Surgery
You will wake up with a compression garment around your breasts and possibly drains. Because Dr. Sadati uses a nerve blocking technique that lasts about nine hours, you will not be in any pain immediately after your breast lift.
You will immediately notice that your breasts positioned higher on your chest!
Our recovery nurses will carefully monitor you after your breast lift. Once you recover from surgery, they will give you prescriptions for pain management and explain how to take care of your incisions and drains. You will be allowed to go home the same day. You must have someone to drive you home and stay with you for the first 48 hours after your surgery so that you can rest.
Customer service is a key component of our practice, and Dr. Sadati will personally call you to follow up after your breast lift. You will be given Dr. Sadati’s 24 hour contact number in case you need assistance outside of business hours.
For the first two days, you will find it difficult to lift your arms over your head. You will need assistance with your medication, meals and personal needs. Some patients experience very little pain and describe their breasts as feeling tender, swollen or bruised. Dr. Sadati highly recommends icing your breasts to reduce swelling. He also recommends a homeopathic remedy called Arnica Montana to help speed your healing process.
For the month following surgery, you will need to wear a compression garment 24/7. You must also sleep on your back to give your breasts time to heal. Because you cannot lift more than ten pounds, you will need help with your children, pets and household chores. Swelling may occur for up to three months following your breast lift.
Complications of a Breast Lift
Short-term risks of a breast lift include bleeding, numbness and infection. Long-term complications include persistent numbness or pain, although these complications are very rare. There is also a chance that your breasts will be asymmetrical and need a second surgery. Dr. Sadati will thoroughly explain the risks of a breast lift so that you can make an informed decision.
Many of the complications from a breast lift can be reduced by choosing a skilled surgeon. You can also reduce your risks by providing a thorough medical history, as well as carefully following Dr. Sadati’s instructions before and after your surgery.
