Anesthesia for Rhinoplasty

Since the rhinoplasty is a major surgical operation, it’s important that Orange County patients understand their different anesthesia options. Dr. Kevin Sadati, a board certified facial plastic surgeon who is renowned for his rhinoplasty results, believes in transparency when it comes to working with his patients. He prefers to provide Newport Beach patients with the information he believes they need to know about cosmetic surgery before they even make the decision to have one performed. There are several different anesthesia options available for patients, and the type used will depend on the complexity of the procedure, the preference of the surgeon, and the preference of the patient.

What is IV Sedation?

IV sedation is also known as twilight anesthesia. Utilizing this type of anesthesia, Dr. Kevin Sadati and his expert team of staff members administer anesthesia through an IV catheter. This is a less expensive form of anesthesia that can be adjusted based on the patient’s needs. The goal is for the patient to be completely unconscious during the procedure, but breathing is not disrupted in the process.

The anesthesiologist will adjust the amount of anesthesia throughout the procedure in order to ensure that the patient stays calm and still. However, IV sedation is not used as often as general anesthesia. Given the complexity of the rhinoplasty procedure, it is often preferred that patients use a more reliable form of anesthesia such as general anesthesia.

What is General Anesthesia?

General anesthesia is the preferred type of anesthesia by Dr. Kevin Sadati for the rhinoplasty procedure. This type of anesthesia requires the anesthesiologist to inject anesthesia that will leave the patient completely unconscious and unable to move. Unlike IV sedation, general anesthesia will not allow patients to, accidentally, wake up or start stirring during their operation. While some patients are apprehensive to use general anesthesia because of the inherent risks involved, it’s important that they understand that the rhinoplasty operation is a relatively short procedure. Lasting from one to three hours, most patients tolerate general anesthesia very well.

As a breathing tube is used, some patients have a minor sore throat after the operation is complete. However, patients can rest comfortably knowing they are in the most trustworthy, professional and skilled hands for their operation. General anesthesia often lends itself to the best rhinoplasty results. Regardless of what type of anesthesia Dr. Kevin Sadati chooses to use for your rhinoplasty, you can rest easy knowing that you will be safe, secure and comfortable throughout the entire procedure.

Dr. Kevin Sadati only works with the best, most qualified anesthesiologists, who remain at your side throughout the operation. His goal is to keep patients feeling relaxed and comfortable.
