Your eyes speak volumes about whom you are. They are the gateway to your soul and provide others with insight about your personality, your current mood, your energy level and your age. This is why many Orange County residents invest in cosmetic eyelid surgery procedures. Dr. Kevin Sadati believes that blepharoplasty Orange County, and other eyelid surgery Orange County, can allow a person to look younger and feel more confident about themselves. As an expert facial plastic surgeon, Dr. Kevin Sadati has been performing eyelid surgery in Newport Beach for the last decade.
What is the Blepharoplasty?
The blepharoplasty procedure is commonly known as the Eye Lift Orange County. During this operation, Dr. Kevin Sadati removes excess skin and fat from the eyelid area in order to rejuvenate a person’s appearance. The blepharoplasty can be performed on the upper eyelid, the lower eyelid or both eyelids at the same time. The traditional facelift procedure can eliminate lines and wrinkles on the majority of the face, but the blepharoplasty is one cosmetic procedure that can improve the appearance of the eyes and provide the patient with long-term results.
What Impact Does the Lower Eyelid Lift Have?
The lower eyelid surgery is designed to eliminate puffiness from the lower part of the eyes, and reduce the appearance of dark circles under the eye. The lower eyelid procedure has the most impact and is recommended for patients who are looking for more dramatic results.
What Impact Does the Upper Eyelid Lift Have?
The upper eyelid procedure or Eyelid Surgery Newport Beach focuses on eliminating excess skin around the crease of the eye. An incision is made in the crease, in order for it to be as discreet as possible. The upper eyelid procedure will provide patients with subtle yet powerful results, but many patients opt to have the upper lid and lower lid performed at the same time.
Are There Any Non-surgical Eyelid Procedures Available?
For many patients, cosmetic surgery is not the best option. Those who are interested in non-surgical procedures will find that laser resurfacing can reduce the appearance of lines and wrinkles around their eyes. While the results are not permanent, this procedure still allows people to look younger and more energized again.
Dr. Kevin Sadati will customize any eyelid procedure in order to ensure the patient gets the results that they want out of their cosmetic surgery experience. He recognizes that every patient requires a unique, customized approach, and he is committed to providing every patient with natural-looking results. Ultimately, those who have eyelid surgery performed will find that they look younger and more energized, but still appear like themselves. Choosing to Have Eyelid Surgery in Orange County
Men and women in Orange County want to look as young as they feel. Unfortunately, it can be hard to look youthful when your eyes – sometimes referred to as “the windows to your soul” – are surrounded by saggy eyelids and dark circles. Patients contact Dr. Kevin Sadati, a prominent Orange County facial plastic surgeon, about eyelid surgery after being repeatedly told that they look tired, even though they feel well-rested.
Changes to your eyelids are a natural part of the aging process, because your aging skin loses flexibility and succumbs to gravity. Although this aging process occurs all over your body, it is particularly apparent around your eyes – the place people focus when they are talking to you. Unfortunately, when the skin at the edge of your eyelids starts to sag, it can make you appear tired.
In addition, there is a layer of natural fat located below the skin of the eyelids. This layer of fat makes the eyes appear youthful. As skin ages, it has less ability to support the fatty layer and this also makes you look older. Sagging skin around your eyelids can also cause the skin below your eyes to swell, which makes it appear as if you have bags and bulges under your eyes.
Eyelid surgery (technically known as a blepharoplasty) is designed to reverse the natural aging process by removing excess tissue and fat. Depending on your goals, you can have surgery on your upper eyelids, your lower eyelids, or both. The result is a more rested, youthful appearance.
Benefits of Eyelid Surgery in Orange County
Eyelid surgery offers many cosmetic benefits. Reducing sagging upper eyelids, and dark circles & puffiness under your eyes make you look younger, less fatigued and more approachable. Altering your eyelids can make your entire face appear younger. Self-esteem improves as people comment that you look rested and refreshed – like you’ve just come back from a vacation!
Many people are surprised that upper eyelid surgery also has functional benefits. Drooping upper eyelids interfere with vision. Not only does this cause eye strain, headaches and fatigue — it also causes strain on the neck as you tilt your chin upward so that you can see. The visual impairment caused by drooping upper eyelids can reduce your peripheral vision and cause safety issues when driving.
Candidates for Eyelid Surgery in Orange County
You are a good eyelid surgery candidate if you are willing to travel to our Orange County office and believe that your eyelids make you look older than you feel. You are also a good candidate if you feel that your upper eyelids are restricting your vision or causing headaches.
You should also be in good health and not have any serious problems with your eyes. You should have realistic expectations for the surgery and be willing to follow Dr. Sadati’s post-surgical instructions. If you do smoke, you’ll be asked to stop for at least three weeks before and after the procedure, as smoking can delay the healing process.
The best way to determine if you’re a good candidate for eyelid surgery is to schedule a consultation with Dr. Sadati at our Orange County office.
Your Eyelid Surgery Consultation
Unlike many surgeons, Dr. Sadati takes time to get to know his patients. You will have an extensive consultation. During your consultation, you’ll discuss how you want your eyes to look, as well as your medical history (including surgery to your face and eyes).
Dr. Sadati will look at your facial anatomy to determine what is causing your upper eyelids to droop. Drooping eyelids may be caused by excess skin on the eyelid or by stretching muscles in your forehead. Dr. Sadati will also determine the cause of eyelid bags and dark circles under your eyes. This is generally caused by excess skin and reduced fat below your eye.
Dr. Sadati will look at your anatomy and decide if eyelid surgery will create the more youthful, rested appearance that you desire. After his examination, Dr. Sadati will tell you honestly if you are a good candidate for upper and/or lower eyelid surgery.
Eyelid surgery can address concerns with your eyelids. If desired, eyelid surgery can also be combined with other procedures. This enables you to minimize recovery time and accelerate your cosmetic transformation. It is also more cost-effective to combine multiple procedures.
Dr. Sadati believes in patient education. He will discuss eyelid surgery with you in detail and answer all of your questions. You will understand your surgical plan prior to surgery. You will leave the consultation knowing that Dr. Sadati cares about you and wants the best results possible from your upper and lower eyelid surgery.
How Eyelid Surgery is Performed
Your eyelid surgery will be performed in our beautiful Newport Beach office in Orange County, California. Prior to surgery, you will completely understand your surgical plan and know how long your surgery will take.
For your safety, your surgery will be performed using IV sedation, no general anesthesia is used. Dr. Sadati goes to great lengths to create a calm and comforting atmosphere, which alleviates much of our patients’ stress. You will be completely relaxed by medications such as Valium and Benadryl.
All of Dr. Sadati’s surgical team are genuinely caring and sympathetic to his patients’ needs. The staff speaks softly and gently, which gives patients confidence during their procedure and contributes to a positive and reassuring experience. Frequently patients are so relaxed that they drift off to sleep. Dr. Sadati will not start the surgery until you are completely relaxed and comfortable.
Upper eyelid surgery begins with a careful incision within the natural crease of the eyelid. Dr. Sadati will then remove excess skin, tighten muscles, and remove or reposition fat deposits. The incision is closed with tiny sutures, skin adhesive or surgical tape.
Lower lid surgery begins with a careful incision either below the lower lash line or inside of the lower eyelid. Excess skin and fat are removed. Fat deposits may be redistributed. Incisions will be closed with tiny sutures, skin adhesive or surgical tape.
Recovery from Eyelid Surgery in Orange County
With a local anesthetic, you will not experience any surgical after-effects such as nausea or grogginess. Instead, when your eyelid surgery is complete, you’ll be encouraged to sit up and then walk around. We offer refreshments and beverages that include filtered water and a nutritious anti-oxidant drink.
As a precaution, your vital signs will be closely monitored and you’ll be discharged only after a thorough post-op review. You will be given eye ointments and instructions about how to care for your incisions. You will need to have someone drive you home and stay with you for the first 24 hours following your surgery.
Customer service is a key component of our practice, and Dr. Sadati will personally call you to follow up after your surgery. You will be given Dr. Sadati’s 24 hour contact number in case you need assistance outside of business hours.
After your eyelid surgery you may experience bruising and swelling around your incisions. Your vision may be blurry or you may have double vision. Your eyes may feel itchy, dry or teary. You cannot rub your eyes! You may notice that your eyes are fatigued and that you are sensitive to light. If this is the case, Dr. Sadati recommends that you wear dark sunglasses — especially when going outdoors.
For the first week after your procedure, Dr. Sadati recommends that you avoid activities that dry your eyes – out door sport activities. You cannot wear contact lenses for two weeks following the surgery.
Swelling can be minimized by using cold compresses on your eyes and elevating your head while you are sleeping. You should also avoid any activities (such as heavy lifting or vigorous exercise) that increase the blood flow to your face.
Dr. Sadati will provide ointments to help with the healing process. He also suggests using a homeopathic remedy called Arnica Montana to reduce inflammation and aid in your recovery.
After five days, you will return to our Orange County office to have your stitches removed. At that time, you can return to work as long as you don’t wear makeup. You can return to wearing makeup and exercising in two to three weeks. The final results are visible within 4 weeks.
Risks of Eyelid Surgery
Dr. Sadati will explain the risks of eyelid surgery. These include infection, excessive bleeding and difficulty healing. It is also possible for eyelid surgery to injure your eye muscles or permanently damage your vision. These risks are lessened by choosing an experienced plastic surgeon, by providing a thorough medical history, and by thoroughly following your pre-surgical and post-surgical instructions.
