The teenage years are often described as superficial years, where friends often critique one another on their appearances. This makes for a stressful time in any young person’s life, especially during years where they already feel vulnerable and self conscious about their bodies. Teenage rhinoplasty provides teens the opportunity to improve their overall body image while investing in themselves at the same time. It’s a trend that is on the rise in Costa Mesa as well as throughout the United States as nearly 40,000 teenage procedures were performed during 2008 alone.
Limitations on Age
It is important that both teens and their parents sit down to have a free consultation with Dr. Kevin Sadati before deciding to have this procedure done. Dr. Sadati feels it is extremely important to wait until a person’s nose has reached its mature adult size before operating on it. This is because when the operation is done too early, the nose can continue to grow and results could be skewed over time.
The ideal age for girls to have this procedure done is when they are at least 15 or 16 years old. Boys should wait until they are closer to 17 years old. The surgeon will determine if the patient’s nose has reached its adult size during the consultation.
While one obvious benefit is helping a teen to improve their self confidence, there are other benefits to having this surgery done during the younger years. For one, the skin is more malleable and can be stretched easier. This allows the surgeon to better craft a new nose, and also helps teens experience a quicker recovery time than older patients. It is easier for a young adult to undergo surgery than an older person, and the results will still last a long time.
