Recovering from any surgery is difficult, but cosmetic surgery presents its own unique challenges to patients during the recovery process. For instance, patients who undergo a rhinoplasty procedure are often anxious to see how their new nose looks on their face.
However, rhinoplasty recovery takes time, and it is important that Huntington Beach patients have patience during this process. There is significant swelling and bruising following the procedure as the surgery is a traumatic event for the face itself. This swelling will subside with time, but patients need to relax, rest and not get frustrated with the recovery process as it is crucial to the surgery’s overall success.
Dr. Kevin Sadati aims to make all of his patients comfortable while they recover. He prescribes several pain medications, antibiotics and steroids to help keep patients feeling good and allowing them to get the rest that they need. It is recommended that recovering patients use cold compresses to help minimize facial swelling. Within 7-10 days, most of the swelling should have subsided.
Patients need to be aware that there could be minor bleeding associated with the procedure. If bleeding gets worse or does not subside, the patient should contact their surgeon.
Patients are asked to spend the first 24 hours following the surgery in bed, and should still rest a lot for the first week of recovery. Light activities can be resumed around the house, and many patients are able to return to work within a week. It is important for all patients to remember that there are several restrictions they have to abide by for a few more months. Heavy lifting and strenuous exercise should be avoided for a couple weeks as should bending over too far. Patients should not participate in contact sports for several months.
